Whatever business you may have, you always want to go with a website that is clean and user-friendly. Your website is essentially the digital home for your business and your products. It’s also your digital marketing hub, where you should hope to connect your customers with your brand and business. Now if you have a poor website, it can seriously hinder your efforts, breaking that connection before you even get started, Below you will find 8 tips that you can and should use to turn your website into a highly optimised conversion hub.

1. Optimise For Mobile Users

No web design tips list is complete without including mobile optimisation in it. Why? Because mobile is very important in this day and age. So much so, that a whopping 80% of web surfers say they will return to a site if it is properly optimised for mobile users. If you have a website, but it isn’t designed to take advantage of the millions of users that prefer to surf the internet via their mobile device, then you are missing out on a ton of repeat business, as well as traffic in general.

As each day passes, more and more people are opting to surf the internet via their mobile devices, whether it’s to research a business or purchase a product. Thus, if your website fails to load, or doesn’t load correctly, then you could end up losing a great deal of customers, who ultimately may end up jumping ship to one of your competitors. And, over time, these mobile user issues could get worse, ultimately adversely effecting your reputation and brand, making it harder for you to attract more business in the future.

Prioritising both the site layout and mobile navigation is very important. From the very beginning, you want to ensure all visual elements, blocks of text, logos, social media icons and call to action businesses, are properly viewable on a mobile device. You want your site design to be totally mobile-friendly, designed to deliver the best experience for the user.

Web Design

This in of itself, can mean a lot of things, such as the inclusion of visual cues (buttons, CTAs, logos, menus) throughout the entire mobile optimised site, to focusing on fonts that are eye-catching, making your service pages and text scan-able.

2. The Layout of Your Website

A successful website is defined by its layout. For the vast majority of web surfers, they are totally put off by a site that is not well designed. This is why you should approach your own designs from this same angle. If you think your site looks unprofessional, then the average viewer is likely to think the same way. This is where wire-framing comes most in handy.

Wireframe allows you to layout your sites pages, before you actually implement the design. When using wireframe, you can decide on key design elements, like text, images, CTAs and much more, before setting your page.

3. Never Forget SEO

Designing a website that is user-friendly, and beautiful, delivering on an optimal experience for the user is great. But it doesn’t mean anything, if your customers are unable to locate the site.

Online visibility is very important, as it’s not only integral to making your site easier to locate, but it also ensures your customers actually see your site. By implementing SEO into your web design strategy, you can ensure that your site will flourish in the search engines, generating excellent user engagement along with the traffic.

In truth, there is a disconnect that exists between the world of SEO and web design, with a lot of web designers looking at SEO as something that belongs to digital marketers and connect creators. Despite that, there are things that the average designer can do, to make their sites more visible in the search engines, from the start.

Web Design Tips

They could ensure the most basic of SEO principles are used in headline creation, subhead creation, image captioning, and URL formats. All of these factors can help improve the websites ability to rank content, right from the start. Knowing how to work with interactive elements, properly break up text within content and as well properly structure a page, can all help to improve the readiness of a sites pages, right from the beginning.

Regardless of whether you’re a first-time site builder or skilled web designer, overlooking the benefits of SEO is something that should be done at your own risk.

4. Gender-Neutral Design

From blue, to pink, to gender-neutral designs. Today, gender neutrality in the design of a website is becoming more and more popular. With gender-inclusive design solutions and language, web designers are opting to promote equality, by ensuring their sites do not show a bias to any particular gender. By making a gender-neutral website, it will help you target all of your potential target market.

5. Animated Illustrations

Inspirational illustrations, designs, and graphic elements are now more popular today than ever before. These little unique design elements are able to help visitors better understand the inner working of a website. Additionally, it’s also a bespoke way to grab the user’s attention by improving the sites engagement.

6. Choosing the Right Colour Scheme

A website can inspire, when the right colours are chosen in its design. Any colours you decide to add into your site, will forever be associated with it, so you must choose wisely. A website that is properly marketed, is associated with its colours. That decision should match up with the products your selling. If you have a site that sells toys for kids, then you’d want to avoid colours like blacks and greys. If you have a personal blog, then you can go with any colour scheme you like.

7. Choosing your Typography

Another important decision you’ll make in the design of your site is its font. It may not seem at all important, but the font you decide to go with, can be the difference in your site. So you may want to test things out. The font you like, may not appeal to the majority of your viewers. You may prefer Times New Roman, but over the past couple of years, people have fallen out of love with it.

8. Engaging Interactives Your website should communicate effectively with your user. This is why interactivity in sites is becoming more and more of a trend. Such user-driven functions allows the user to get the information while interacting with it. It’s also a great way to improve your sites user experience (UX).
